Overview

Lessons are typically scheduled weekly and take place at my in-home studio located in North Portland. I also offer virtual lessons conducted via Zoom.

Learning a new skill or refining an existing one requires time, patience, and practice. As a teacher, I am committed to supporting students throughout their learning journey by providing constructive feedback and encouragement. However, it is also important for students to continue strengthening their skills between lessons.

For most students, an acoustic or digital keyboard with 88-weighted keys is the ideal instrument. However, I understand that this may not be accessible or practical for everyone starting out. If needed, I can provide a few resources to help you get started.

My teaching approach is rooted in the fundamentals of Western Classical Music, including staff/sight-reading, aural skills, rhythm, technique, and body awareness. I also acknowledge that Western Classical Music has historical ties to colonialism and white supremacy. I make a conscious effort to use my understanding of music and history to promote change and work towards dismantling implicit biases in institutionalized music.
