Bio
My name is Nicholas Garcia, and I am a highly accomplished pianist and educator in Portland, Oregon. My approach to teaching is both sensitive and direct, valuing each student as a unique individual, while providing a safe space for them to develop their musical abilities.
I have more recently completed my Master's of Science degree in piano from Portland State University, where I had the privilege of studying under the guidance of Dr. Elise Yun and Dr. Susan Chan.
I fell in love with piano at the age of nine when I started taking lessons in my hometown of Denver, Colorado. After only six months of study, I auditioned for and was accepted into the piano program at Denver School of the Arts, a performing and visual arts middle and high school.
After graduating high school, I pursued my Bachelor's of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where I studied with several renowned piano faculty members, including Dr. Alejandro Cremaschi.
In addition to my work as an educator, I'm committed to de-centering whiteness from the Western classical music canon. I actively work to recognize and remove micro-aggressions and implicit bias from the institution. I'm passionate about promoting diversity and inclusion within the world of classical music.
